Hanging Inside From Ceiling Joists

I know that the idea that you could hang inside, from ceiling joists, near verticle, with a ridged str has been tossed around, but has anyone sucessfully done this? I am contemplating hanging two single nests in my room that can be put up and taken down as needed, but I don't have that much of a spread to work with, so the lines need to be verticle. Also they would be hanging from a slanted ceiling so the line holding up the hammock would only be around 1-2 feet on each side. Also the ceiling joist is not exposed and I cannot access it from above.

I had the same idea a little while ago (we have a drop down ceiling anyway). You may have thought of this but you would need something to keep the head and foot ends spread apart. maybe a 8-9 foot 2x4 with holes drilled in either end.
You'd probably need to exposed the joist though so you can be sure you have a secure anchor point.

If I had to expose the joist it would send this project over the top. I was thinking that I could get a round bar of aluminium, drill holes in it and use it to spread out the head and foot end of the hammock.

someone helped me with this before, you need pad eyes from a marine supply that are rated over 500 lbs. You can use a studfinder and a razor blade knife and trace the pad eye on the ceiling. Cut the wall board as neetly as possible, expose the joist. Pre drill the holes to make it easier to sink the 1 1/4 or better screws. I used climbing rope from EMS to finish the project. Worked like a charm and I am 235 lbs.

Have a hang from the ceiling (floor joist) set up in the basement. Unless you want to hang high you will need a bit of a span. Anchor points are a bit over 8' above the floor. Spread ends up to be ~24'.

Don't have a basement.
Might end up making a "model" to see how it works. I liked cannibals setup but I really need the total length to be just a litter longer that the whipping/gathered end is.

Also don't mind hanging that high to the ceiling, it is only 4-5 feet high where I would be hanging it.

Here is a quick video I did on the set-up in our guestroom. Works for campers and larger hammocks and takes-up almost no real estate when the hammock is down. Hope it helps, or at least gives you an idea.
