Goblin Valley, Utah (sans-trees)

When you're camping in Utah's canyon country, you have to get creative when it comes to finding places to hang your hammock for the night.

Last night our Scout Troop left a blizzard that was dumping 2-inches of snow at home and went on an overnighter to Goblin Valley State Park; 150-miles south of home.

This was the view from my hammock this morning when I woke up.

When there's no trees around, you have to make due with the resources you have. Luckily I trusted the strength of these "trees" and didn't have to worry about my tarp.

Before heading to the "Valley of the Goblins," the boys decided to hike around (above) the campground (seen in the white circle).

Once we got to the valley, I hung my hammock between a couple of the goblins. Ahhh....

The boys are again hanging out in the cliffs above me.

Here's a great panoramic ~125º view of part of "Valley #1." There are three interconnected valleys containing these formations.

Awesome pics! I wouldnt like to try hanging in my local version of this place though, I'd be drawn and quartered by the Authorities!

Thanks. I've also been to the Twelve Apostles off the coast of Victoria... It would take some seriously long tree huggers and whoopie slings to hang off them. But, what a view!!! http://s.tygr.ws/lxadpS

They don't seem to mind that we hang off these.
