    Help with double layers

I have been a good newbie and spent some time with the search function, but I haven't found what I am looking for.

For a DIY double layer hammock, do I just double the fabric and hem the sides like normal? This would seem the logical way ... but logical isn't always the correct way. Aren't some doubled hammocks set were you can slide a pad between the two layers?

If so, this isn't what I am looking for. I just have some 1.1 that I want to practice on for a gathered end rig. With my weight, it seems to be on the edge for a single layer of 1.1.

    Thanks in advance,
    STinGa

PS ... looks like I stumbled on the answer here ... http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=23007

Leave a space along the side open so you can slip a closed cell foam pad or a bit of reflectix between the layers - to help keep you warm when needed.

I left about 20 inches open on one end and put velcro on both sides so I could close it off after I put the pad inside. But the pad thing didn't work too well, it just slid around inside and eventually dumped me off.

    Thanks Jeff,

I think I am set to start this project.

While no one in the house sews, there are several moms at my daughters' dance studio who are quite handy. I am sure that I can get one to commit to sewing a few straight lines for me.

You can hide some of the raw edge by sewing the two layers together and the turning it inside out thru the pad opening.. (like a big pillowcase)
If it were me, I'd leave a opening for the pad, but you can always undo some stitching later and put one in as well.

Pad slip can be fixed by applying small dabs of silicone and letting it dry to the pad. Creates tacky spots for the pad and fabric to stick better.
Inflatable pads need less air to conform to the bends of the body.

If yo do like Gargoyle said and do the bag thing make sure you put in another line of thread an inch or so down from the edge once you turn it inside out. This will keep the layers from wanting to move when you get in. This is what I did.
