    dacron line???

Hey, i have been quite currious about dacron line-more specifically Braided Dacron Line 250# strength line. Does anyone have any experience with it?? it seems like it would be a great line for rigelines and guylines because it is available in many bright colors, but im not sure on what kind of durability it has, and the actual tensile strength of it. please post any comments or insights you all have.
    Thanks,
    Dan

I use it for a hoist line (keep food in a tree).

It is very smooth and doesn't snag easily.

Since it doesn't snag easily it stays pretty much perfect after each use.

The color does sort of "wear off" of it after a LOT of use.

It is Very strong and Very light - perfect for this application.

It doesn't tangle easily (again, smooth - braided).

Since it is braided you can easily splice loops in the ends which makes setting up a loop around a rock easy.

When I hoist up my food I also loop in a small thin branch which, if broken, would cause my food to fall. The idea here is that if it did ever get snagged I wouldn't go foodless - I could snag my food bag with another line and force the twig to break - cause you're unlikely to break the dacron... YMMV (works for me).

Keep this stuff AWAY from heat- can't stand much more than boiling or it gets wrecked.

    Dan,

Sorry but I don't have this info. I weigh 165 or so and have spliced loops in, inserted a piece of heavy rebar to form a "T" and then stood from it hanging from a chain hoist and bounced up and down a little on it (very little). This was to test my splices. It didn't fail for me under these circumstances but I don't think I'd push it much beyond that.

Knots would de-rate it further and due to the "slippery" nature of it, I would assume the knot would slip / fail. Bowlines totaly slip in these at just a few tens of pounds. Keep that in mind when using this for anything "heavy"

    Thanks,
    Dan
