    Privacy?

So, I've never really been a private kind of guy, and don't mind being 'out in the open' when I sleep. What is a concern to me, though, is dressing/undressing; hammocks aren't exactly what you would call modest.

I deal with this by changing under my poncho, which works well enough...

    What's your solution?

I hear you. It's more of an issue for me when I'm with mixed groups and especially with the Boy Scouts. The Scouts have privacy rules and we like to make sure they can have places to change in private.

Hammocks and tarps pose an interesting issue because tarps don't always provide full coverage/concealment, especially asymmetric tarps.

Solutions include pitching one side low and steep to offer the best protection. You can always try the inchworm technique and change in your hammock (difficult; not recommended except in rare cases). Go behind a bush.

For me, my layering style doesn't really require a lot of undressing, as I can pull over layers for bed, including thermal bottoms that fit over my shorts, etc.

This technique is good for the Scouts too, if you recommend to them to wear longer spandex running shorts, for example, as a base layer.

You mean you all do not sleep in your hammock without cloths on - gasp!!

    Ok, joking aside...

For those of us who have dedicated "sleeping cloths" that never ever get used during the day, this can be an 'issue' if you are in a crowd of people, or like dejoha mentioned, among a group of minors.

It becomes an ever greater issue if everybody goes to bed before its dark. This is, after all, why campers starting going to bed after it gets dark and the campfire it out, right

And, for those of us who use the smallest of tarps out there, it can be an even bigger issue.

Than of course, the greatest feat of them all.... clear cuben fiber tarps - lololol

i simply use my hammock as a chair and get dressed in a sitting position, the tarp hh hex does provide ample coverage, the trees cover most of the open area and if people dont want to see me naked they just have to look away

I had this issue earlier in the year at a camp site with a ton of strangers, either stood behind the tarp if the coast were clear that way or sat in the hammock under the tarp most the time.
    Also changing quick helps

I ran into this situation when some of my coworkers decided to join the hiking group. I've never been overly modest, but the last thing I need is word spreading around my work place how I change clothes in front of people.

If I'm changing down to my birthday suit, I borrow a tent. If there's no tents around, then it's not a problem because then my co-workers aren't around and it's a moot point. If I'm just changing down to my boxers, then I just do it in the open.
If there's two ways to take my comments, assume it's the lighter and funnier of the two.

I've used the "change under a poncho" way in mixed company, and that has worked reasonably well, it shows that you're attempting to not change in front of them anyway..

When camping with the Scouts, I either carry an 8x8 lightweight tarp to use as a privacy screen or plan on being late to bed and early to rise. It's not like we're going ultralight.

Probable not light enough for you hikers, but effective. Make one out of nylon maybe?
