You're right, the narrow baffles are more work but, I think they are worth it.
Selk bags make wearable down sleeping bags. They're expensive, but you might get some design ideas for you DIY project by looking at their products. Good luck!

Im making a tapered wearable quilt. I dont need 48" of girth in the front.
I have a new Dreamwalker I am parting with for much cheaper than new if anyone is interested. It seems to fit the bill of what people are talking about and is very light.
