    Morrow Mountain State Park

Nothing official, but I'm planning a little hang and hike at Morrow Mountain State Park. Arrival is on 12/15, departure 12/18. Snakeman and I will be hanging out in the primitive campsite area. If anybody is interested in joining us, just reserve a spot (only 4 sites in the Primitive Camp). It will be a good chance to cold weather test your gear, and just enjoy a few days of peace in the woods. I'm looking forward to getting the Dixon Rollerpack back on the trail.

Again, this is not an official hang, just an invitation to anyone who might like to hang out for a few days.

Just let us know. Like I said, it's nothing special, just our late fall hang. We just chose to go a little farther west this time. I was just thinking it might be nice to invite a few folks to come along for company.

    re

Anyone been on both sides of the river?

The south side is Morrow Mountain, the other is Uwharrie.

My uncle loves Morrow, I've only been on the Uwharrie side.

Not a bad area but after visiting Linville Gorge I don't know that I'll ever look back :-D

It is very hammock friendly as most of the hills are open woods rather than thickets.

I assume the other side of the river is similar.

I've been all over UNF and MM but have never camped at MM. UNF isn't as pretty as the Gorge, but it's definitely a nice place, especially since its only 40 something miles from my house, and pretty close to just about everything outside of the mountains in NC. I'm really gonna try and make it out there with you guys. Is the trail named, or do you just hike in to the primitive sites?

The primitive campsites are off Sugarloaf Mtn Trail. Short, easy walk in. One cool November night years ago I had something step on my tent at zero-dark-thirty; I looked outside and had eleven deer in a 25' radius. Just another reason to hammock now.

Access is by the Sugarloaf Mountain Trail, or by the Bridle Trail, according to the park office.

Let me know if you want to share our spot or get your own. I'm kinda hoping for a little snow by then.

I will only be able to make it Friday night since you are leaving on Sat. Would it be ok to just share a site with you guys for one night? I'll be glad to pay for the site for the night. The issue is that I may be coming alone so I wouldnt want to hog another site just for myself.

I don't think that will be a problem. We will enjoy the company. Just send me a PM, later, so I can add your vehicle to the reservation.
