I'm "a little quicker" when I don't have to consider two hammocks, two sets of insulation, two sets of tarp stakes, two tarps, vegetarian slow cook food, a "hidden cache" of hand gel (in case the rest was used to start a fire), an outsized first aid kit.... Getting up well before noon helps as well.

I was actually going to do a section of the AT (Sam's gap to Erwin) that weekend but this sounds like a perfect time to be introduced to the gorge. My wife is having a friend visit and I need an excuse to vacate the premises.

Carrying a full size stainless steel Kelly Kettle is no problem provided you bring 600' of strapping. Now getting it lose is another story....
