Overnight in Oldham Co. KY

Went out last night on my first backpacking trip. Sort of a gear trial. I stayed in the Morgan Conservation Park in Oldham County, KY.

Gear:
Hammock - Texsport Hobo II, I whipped the ends and ran a ridgeline across and tied some descender rings on each side
Suspension - 1" tubular webbing, acting as tree huggers, hooked to the descender rings on the hammock
Tarp - DIY 11.5' x 9' silnylon
Insulation - Insufficient 30 degree mummy sleeping bag

My toes were numb in the morning, but otherwise it was a great trip.

Good attitude. You could probably add a ccf pad in the hammock , lay the sleeping bag on top of you with a fleece blanket and you might be ok at that temp,,sort of borderline tho depending on whether your a cold or warm sleeper. Good looking tarp and nice spot to hang. Time for a DIY UQ.

Nice trip,

I would say your 30° bag would be sufficient for 30°

but your term. says 27°

Socks might help

I wear socks, Term-long-J, long sleave T-shirt, vest, etc.

The colder it gets the beefier the sleep cloths should be.

Your gear that you made looks good!
Bring a pad and your toes will be good to go .... next time.

I struggle with the cold feet thing too. I wish I had a cure for that, but alas I do not. Socks, pad, extra quilt and nothing has helped. Maybe I need to stay still in the hammock? Next attempt is going to be some down booties, maybe that will work.
I like the tarp. I'm hoping the new 2Q/ZQ "Grizz" beaks will help my TTTG tarp close up like that this winter.

If I might make a suggestion. I don't know how you dress for the winter nights sleep, but if you wear socks try switching to booties that fit a little looser than socks.

Last year I was having the problem with cold toes. It's been suggested that it might be from tight fitting socks. So, I cut the sleeves out of an old fleece pull over, trimmed them so they came up to my calves and had my aunt close up one end and put a little elastic in the open end. Haven't had the problem since.
