The Sipsey is one of the best places in the South East to go backpacking, camping, and kayaking for a nice relaxing weekend. It's a true wilderness area, and you can really isolate yourself if you so choose. One of my favorite all time places to hit the woods.

Wow 9 hours! That's a long drive for a weekend, but if it is as nice as all of you say, could be worth it. Thanks for the pictures!

If you are driving that far take an extra day for the travel, that way you can really see the Sipsey area and not have to rush through it.

Can anyone recommend a good source for info/maps on Sipsey? I'd like to take a Scout troop over there, but have had some difficulty in finding a good "go to" source for info/map.

I am in the same position with my troop. Every year over MLK weekend our troop pics someplace for our "long" (3-night) hike. We most often bounce between Pine Mountain (FDR State Park, GA) and Cheaha, but this is the first year we are doing Cheaha in the past 5.

I am also loking for info on Sipsey to suggest the place for next year. I hope to get up there solo, with my son, or with some other hangers this spring to reconioter the area. Any advance information would be most welcome.

I have DeLorme Topo 8, so I am always interested in .gpx files with routes and/or waypoints. This is extremely useful in advanced planning.

    Really Good Sipsey Map!!!!!!

For you guys looking for a Sipsey map, try this one attached. It is the one I got from the first Sipsey hang I attended back in Feb. 09.

The PDF linked above is good to show the main trails.

If you want a larger format topo map, you can order a laminate one here. The maps were updated just last year.
