    Am I crazy?

Am I crazy for considering a Winter Yeti to use for a top quilt for my dog?

Ok it's a BIG investment BUT it is warm, light, compacts down to nothing, and I could always use it myself whenever I didnt' feel like bringing the Katadahn...what about the 3 season version...can anyone shed some light on whether this would be a warm enough option for a dog in -20C weather? i.e is a Yeti overkill? I'd rather just spend the money and have my dog warm rather then continue trying to improvise and buying cheap crap for her!

Another option I was thinking about was a Kick *** Quilt UQ and using it the same way.

Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

    lucky pooch!
seriously, I'd consider ther material the quilt is made of...you will probably end up washing it ALOT!
Down is easy to wash, but takes time
perhaps find someone willing to make a quilt with the inside of silnylon so you can wash just the outside easier?..

Yes you are crazy - you should give it to me instead(i cant afford a prober winter uq) But what a lucky pooch!?! Consider a hd cover or risk having down allover the place(if she scratches and accidentally rip a hole)

Still - what a lucky dog, that you even consider it

    +1 on crazy.

I'd seriously think about synthetic and a more durable cover b/c of the washing as mentioned.

I don't know that a dog would sleep under a quilt. They prefer "nests" to curl up in. I use an REI dog camp bed for my pooch, and my friend uses one from Ruff Wear. Both are very rugged and cleanable. They aren't super light weight though. I would go with some sort of bed and an insulated jacket for the dog for warmth. It would suck to get a Yeti and then have the dog not want to sleep under it. Check the Ruff Wear website for ideas.

My honest opinion is that no dog will keep a top quilt on. Its hard enough to get a dog to wear clothes made for animals. Get a down vest or two made for a dog. Get one big, one small so that you can layer them. Or he will just take off or tear up whatever you've got, especially if it smells like geese.

I had a 90 lb Weimaraner that loved to sleep with a blanket on her. She'd curl up about as tight as she could and then we would put the blanket over her. We could always tell when she was uncovered, her teeth would chatter something ferocious. We'd cover her back up maybe once during the night.

You know your dog best. I think the Yetti, although expensive, would be an excellent choice as long as you were comfortable that it would be durable enough and not be abused by your trustful companion.
