My first hammock, a DIY I made myself just self destructed with a fatal tear as I climbed out of it.

If you dont mind me asking. What was the type of fabric you used for it? I am about to make my own soon and still deciding on fabric choice. Thinking about using a 210 Oxford Nylon like my Hennessy's made out of. But if I can go lighter and get away with it I will. I am 200lbs 6'1"
PS: sorry bout your hammock..
That indeed is a sad day; sorry for your loss. Make sure it gets a proper service...

My forum name is Fish<><; I'm in the navy; and I hate sleeping on the ground. If I didn't need ground to walk on or measure resistance to, I think I could happily give it up.
Don't look at it as a sad day. Look at it as the opportunity to make ANOTHER one.

I'm kind of sentimental when it comes to stuff like that. If it was my hammock (and I imagine my time is coming up--can't keep the kids away from it), I'd repurpose the material--stuff sacks, ridgeline organizer, hammock pillow, etc. Remember, every end is a new beginning.
I also plan on wearing all black and lowering the flag at half mast when my diy gathered end finally leaves this world. In the midst of life we are in death...
You're gonna need a bigger hammock
Make a better one! Now go and do it,,you have a reason to!

I once made a tarp that, well, let's just say that it didn't come out right. I'm still getting stuff sacks out of that "failure."
Figure out what went wrong, learn from it, and make another one!

Sorry about the hammock, but I second what others have said about reusing the materials into other items. Probably some ideas you've gotten here on HF that will make the next one even better, I'll bet.
I'm not sure. It was long before I discovered the benefits of hammocking and this forum. I was at Walmart and just found a fabric I thought was strong enough to hold me. I'm not sure if it was nylon, polyester, or what.
The day it failed, before it failed, I was actually looking and ready to order some fabric for a new hammock, but questioned myself as to whether I could justify to the Mrs. the making a fourth hammock for myself. Now, two days after it failed, she didn't bat an eye when I told her I was wanting to DIY another.
