Making a continuous loop

I made a continuous loop which ended up with a gap between the tucked ends and then when I pulled hard it came apart. I searched for instructions but was unable to find it. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Did you taper the ends? Very important in amsteel.

I picked it up at the Harbor Freight in Lombard. Best $10 I've spent in a *long* time. Cuts cleanly and sharply. Just make sure you use a proper cutting board.

I use my rotary cutter .... usually used for cuttin' fabric.....

I use a single edge razor blade and a small cutting board.

If it came apart under load, you did not do it correctly. Loops and many other splices come apart easily under light loading if you do not stitch the bury (the crossover in the loop). The stitching is not for strength, it is for keeping the bury in place when lightly loaded.

The taper is a part of the splice, so it is important to taper when required. It should not any effect on the splice pulling loose.
