Sweet - thanks wildcrafter, just recommend which area would be best to get at least a 4x4 vehicle in possible a car for those that want to attend but don't have a 4x4
Just got back from three days on MRT... Snow Snow Snow... Had about 8-10 on ground with more or less in some areas, it's gator time for sure... Seaton Creek Campground and trailhead not plowed but road to camp entrance was, Slagle Creek trailhead was not plowed, don't know about road above as I hiked into Slagle... BEAUTIFUL hike with all the fresh snow, I'll put up a trip report in next day or so...
Seaton was easy access even with snow as the road back in is mostly flat, camp is full of snow so a shakedown night there and then a hike in if desired would be possible... Designated campsite 3-4 had a few hang spots, site 5 had several scattered spots, site 6 & 7 are exposed and few if any hanging spots, 8 & 9 right at Slagle Creek are a little exposed but have lots of trees for hanging. I stayed about a 1/8 mile towards Seaton just north 100 yard of the large foot bridge is a site on river side of trail 200' from water and lots of trees well protected from wind...
i've been chatting with the ranger station trying to sweet talk them into just a simple pass into the trail head and back out at seaton creek, almost there.
my group is thinking about a car camp friday night at seaton and then a 3 mile hike to campsite 3. if you go back into the woods about 20-30yds from the fire ring memory serves there were a lot of trees. unless anyone from here goes i'll be the only hanger with the rest in tents - sucks for them.
i still plan to leave around 10:30 next friday with an ETA to the trail head around 3-4pm.
TQ almost done, just need to knock out the tarp next.
Accuweather is showing another 18" Of snow by Monday.... Oh Boy!!!
i'm thinking i'm going to need a sled,...pack will be too heavy for me and the snowshoes.
gonna have to put me on the no go list boss says have to work so we can get everything done before the end of year.
poked around the mrt on friday nothing was plowed and there was 4 inches of snow that was melting. With the storm that hit last night I imagine this to be outdated talked with some friends up there and there getting hit hard.
Got about 6" in Ludington over the weekend. All the schools in the area are closed today, and I do mean ALL! For the most part Northern Michigan is shut down for the day.
