    Infinity Thimble

I'm trying to figure out the best way to attach a whoopie to an already stitched tree hugger... I made a few nacrabiners, but I'm slightly concerned about the amsteel on amsteel wear.

So I came up with this...

I used a locked brummel to fix the thimble in place and then used another locked brummel with continuous loop methodology on the opposite end. My only concern is that I wanted to make these very small, so my bury is only 2-inches on each side. Is it the brummel or bury that accounts for the strength?

    Will it work?

Looks good and I have no idea about your question.

I have thought about running a piece of tubing around the amstel to reduce wear, but do not have any on hand now.

I would not worry to much about amsteel to amsteel wear in this sort of application. There is minimal rubbing one to the other in a loaded use. Normally in climbing and such it is a no no, but that is due to the thought that a rope will be running over another line creating a sawing action on the rope. For us though we make little adjustments to get the hang correct and then we are done, the rope does not run over it's contact point continually. Especially when loaded with your weight, it is static.

On the 2" bury, if you can make it with more you should. 2" is pretty small, I like 3" or better in my Chain Links, though I do not use a Brummel in them. Were I do use a brummel to little can cause the braid to separate and the lock to pull the braid apart. For this application 2" may be enough but you won't know till you hang.

Very nice, I bet that locked brummel will hold with a 2" bury.

Speaking of thimbles, and as Paul has weighed in

I was wondering: As a Heavy Hanger, and a user of AHE Chain Links with lightweight cinch buckles, would it be of benefit to insert thimbles to minimize wear of the Amsteel against the aluminum buckle frame?

So far I have had no problems. But I keep looking for wear............

Jsaults, if you insert a thimble then you'll have metal on metal wear. Just keep watching for chafe and wear which is something we all should do.

It works perfectly and the 2-inch bury / locking brummels held fine.

I went with this design because I didn't want a friction point between my whoopies and tree huggers, yet I also didn't want to invert my whoopie slings either (I like the adjustment point near the hammock). Beyond that, these will also give me a connected system so I don't lose the huggers.

These weigh 4g or 0.15 ounces ..... almost identical to the weight my nacrabiners.

I think I'll call it the Infinity Thimble .... LOL ....
