    Hanging in Humboldt

Northern California weather has been espeially nice for this season. I just got back from a 3-day trip along the Humboldt Coast.
The first shot is looking down at the beach that we camped on.

Hammocking opportunities were found, and we had great visits from the local wildlife.
The Roosevelt elk have been reintroduced into this area.

We passed a camp that was set up like a gym. All kinds of things to hang and climb on. It probably all washed up on the beach.

The mushroom season is in full swing!

In three days we saw only two people on their way in as we were hiking out. It was beautiful

    Awesome!!

The Lost Coast Trail is one great trail here in the Redwoods!!

I am looking at doing the drive down from Eureka in a few weeks to do this trail. Were you able to find hang locations every night? Did you spend two nights on the trail or three?

    Those some DIY bridge hammocks??

Using the branch as a support pole to help hang both hammocks from... thinking outside the box, I love it!!

I really enjoy that area.... Bear Harbor is one of my favorite places. The Elk herd in that area is probably the closest elk herd that people can get close too, either on foot or in car. Amazing herd.

Yeah, I guess I was in your neck of the woods Redwood guy.

And yes, those are two of my most recent DIY bridge hammocks. I think I've read about other people spreading hammocks this way. I can't take any credit for that idea. And I actually swapped it for a hiking pole before sleeping in the hammocks.

We hung the hammocks two nights. The first night didn't have a good view. It was under a dense canopy of Alder trees. We had to hike an additional 2.5 miles due to road closure. So it was pretty dark by the time we found the campsite. You can find places along the way, but the designated camp areas have the better views and access to water (usually). I don't know about hammock hanging opportunities further North, But I may be finding out over Thanksgiving.

Yeah, the elk were a bit too close. I wouldn't want to be there in September during the full rut. I saw a bull charge a cow with his antlers poking her behind, as they were grazing around our campsite. It was about 30' away from where my girlfriend was still sleeping.

I can smell the salt air... Fog keeping the sun under control until mid-morning and the sound of the waves crashing on the beach all night makes it hard to get up early.
    Thanks for sharing your trip.
