Bury for Amsteel 1/8 and 7/64 splices

I'm a newbie and about to make a DIY whipped hammock (ala JustJeff's model) with a structural ridgeline. I'm 5'11 and 240, and the hammock will be about 11' long.

I'm still debating between Amsteel 1/8 and 7/64 to use for structural ridgeline and the hammock support lines (to attach to rings and HF cinch straps used as tree straps). I would like to make loop splices at the ends of the support lines--one to make the larks head to attach to hammock, the other to attach to rings. What length bury should I use for making those splices in 1/8 or 7/64 respectively?

I am 6'2'' 260 and use 7/64 with a locked brummel and a 6 inch bury for my whoopies.

After reading here on HF that a locked brummel negates the need to have a long bury I made my basement setup which is a piece of amsteel with 2 fixed eyes girth hitched through a drilled hole in the center of the rafters with a carabiner clipped to the free fixed eye. Both fixed eyes have locked brummels and 3 inch buries. I (knock on wood) have not had any issues with either setup.

According to Samson the bury on a locked brummel in amsteel should be 2 fid lengths (1 fid = 21 x rope diameter). So for 1/8" the bury is 5-1/4". With 7/64" the bury is 4-5/8".

Well I guess I need to re-fid to add another inch or two. The concrete of my basement floor is probably much less forgiving than the earth.

To ask another question, what is the advantage of the locked brummel over a conventional splice locked with lock stitching?

Both work fine. Probably more a matter of preference.

Why not make a continuous loop, larkshead it around the hammock end and then you have the remainder of the loop to attach to the rings.

What's the advantage of that over two loops, besides a single splice?

No real advantage except ease and speed of making it. If you make locked brummels for the loops you have to feed a completed end through the second one which can be done but requires more effort (unless you use a McDonald locked brummel or are just going to stitch a simple bury). A continuous loop can also be made a little smaller if you follow the manufaturers' recommended bury length.

Here's a little chart I made so I didn't have to calculate the bury dimensions each time.

Disclaimer - I figured these using infomation I obtained from Samson's website and posts on HF. They work well for me, but I'm not a math kinda guy.
