    Question slap strap alternative?

i just got a double nest for my birthday, totally stoked about it. however, the gift giver did not include the ENO slap straps for assembly. instead, i got heavy duty cinch straps manufactured by WINDE, Seattle Sports. does anyone know anything about this method? i'm not so sure about the cinch straps, though the variance of the slap straps is evading me. thoughts?

    thanks,
    ace

The slap straps are made of nylon and stretch quite a bit. Which is what those that have used them have said. Not a good thing. If the cinch straps are made of polyester, they might work. Never heard of them. Many of us here use cinch buckles and either polypropylene webbing or the less stretching polyester webbing. http://www.onrope1.com/store/index.p...d=118&parent=4

I bought two sets of slap straps with my first two hammocks. I've since discarded them because webbing and ring buckles work better, weighs less. and cost less.

    Welcome ace chick!

The rings or buckles used with the polyester webbing that's already been mentioned is the way to go. They will make your adjustments much easier to make and quicker too.

Ace-chick, welcome aboard, glad to have you with us. Like you, I had a set of SlapStraps when I bought my first ENO hammock. It took me a while, but I finally discarded them this past spring, abandoning them for the ever-popular ring buckle setup. I use 1" polyester webbing from Strapworks and am very happy with it. I am, however, still considering trying out the buckle system just to see how I like it. The two main reasons I left the SlapStraps behind are their limited adjustability and the terrible low-memory stretch of nylon. Trust me, polyester or polypro are much better for hammock supports. Both have high strength ratings and very little or no stretch. Save yourself some frustration and potential discomfort and switch first chance you get.

Looks like the straps are polyester. http://store.seattlesportsco.com/pro...?idCategory=33

What model straps did you get?

I also use the webbing and rings, quick to setup and take down.

I use the camo polyester webbing from OWF with cinch buckles.

hey yall, thanks for the replies and the advice! i'm starting to be glad i didn't get the slap straps, though i'm still a little worried about the security of the cinch straps.

Iafte, the model i have is the over-the-hull red 9' straps...

I wouldn't worry about the security of the straps or buckles; they look pretty tough. You can always tie the security knot (slip) that us ring-users use.
