super duper structural ridgeline slap strap and smack your momma

I just read the thread about patent infringement... don't get me started on that

...and an idea struck me i'd like to get into public hands, has anyone tried running a rope from one eno slap strap to the other tight, like a structural ridgeline? then you could still hang the hammock from the straps and adjust your sag and not have to run a seperate ridge line for cosmetic reasons or w/e

I've never used a structural ridgeline, for starters I like sag thats why i prefer hammock over ground, but adjusting it is something i like to do sometimes keep my butt off the ground or get comfortable

let me know if there's a thread on that or any photos, i'll try it next time i hammock and try to get photos

I think that would be really cool, maybe just have one long slapstrap, you could use the extra loops to hang gear on, hang your hammock and connect your tarp to it

Yep, there are quite a few of us that use structural ridgelines with our HAAB style hammocks. One pic of such a setup can be found in HC4U's review of the TTTM hammock here. Note that many users of that style of hammock have long since abandoned the 'slap straps' in favor of other suspension methods.

    Me too.

I have a rope that sets my sag. I don't want to call it a ridgeline or structural ridgeline...whatever. It's a ^($%*$ rope to make setting up easier. If they don't like it sue me that's what I say. Mule

a structural ridgeline is meant to lock the sag of a hammock, so sag is constant. Why on earth (or above, suspended by 2 trees) would you add a ridgeline between the straps, allowing the user to change the level of sag? instead, save your self the weight and bulk and leave the rope at home.

and for sag, it allows the user to lay diagonally, so the hanger is almost flat, not under the ridgeline, so your back bananas to the shape.

maybe i should draw a picture, the concept i'm getting at is a ridgeline with hoops so you can carabiner your tarp, hammock and gear on it and you could have a fixed sag if you wanted, just a long slap strap instead of two

next time i get on a sewing machine maybe i'll make one

i like to adjust my sag, i do not have an asym or hennessey

i like to lower the sag if i'm cooking, or lounging so i can put my feet on the ground and swing for fun

i like to raise the sag if it's storming to keep out blowing rain or wind coming in under the tarp

I see your idea and it's not a bad one all really, if you want to use SlapStraps. But do bear in mind that SlapStraps are nylon and should be avoided AT ALL COSTS. They have a huge amount of low-memory stretch in them, which mens every time you use them, they'll stretch and stretch and, well, you get the picture. My advice unto thee? Abandon the SlapStraps in favor of something with MUCH less or almost no stretch to it such as polypro or polyester. As far as ridgelines go, you can use Spyderline or Dyneema from APS, both of which seem to be popular materials for structural ridgelines among those here who do use them (Like me! )

Hmmmmm........never tried it, but it might be worth a shot. I'm kinda a big fan of my goat cheese cheeseburgers myself.
