    need some help

hey i accepted a lob offer in alaska at seafood processing plant and will be heading out there in 3 weeks. i was told i would have room n board since the the job site is so remote. im now being told there facilities are full and i have to camp out on the property. i dont have a tent only a hennessy hammock but no underquilt or any way to stay warm in freezing winter temperatures. i have spent all my money on a plane ticket and clothing. i was wondering if anyone can sell me or give me a nest underquilt or ss that no longer need or use
    thank you

Congrats on the new job, and welcome to HF! I don't have any quilts I could sell you, but in the mean time, you might get a couple of walmart blue foam pads, or Evazote pads (they're thinner and lighter, but still good at keeping butts warm). I don't know what kind of temperatures you'll be getting, but a big tarp to keep the wind off of you will go a long way in keeping you warm.

    Best of luck!

Well to be honest I would not take the job if they cannot provide you shelter, It's cold in Alaska and even colder near the sea, that's where they place the processing plants right at the harbors so you get it fresh . For the hours you will be working what time off you will have you want a place to stay warm and at least get some sleep. don't want to be cutting a limb off with lack of sleep. I know the money might be appealing but once you get there you will be in for a rude awakening. just my opinion my friend I would really think about it before you take another step and do it soon so you can get most of the plane ticket reimbursed.

There are laws against such a thing as that

a month ago a logging slashing work crew were found
to be living in shipping containers in the bush.

No clean water, and no proper sewage.

    This was in BC

Alaska could get as low as -40 or worse

Fish processing is a dangerous job under the best conditions.

Be carful if you have been promised, and then it is taken away before you even leave . . .

    . . . RED FLAG . . .

good to find out now . . .

I'm with the others, RED FLAG!!!

What's the name of the company?
    References from the Labor Dept?
Is camping allowed on commercial Industrial property? As mentioned..water, sanitation?
The money may sound tempting, but the cost of living is really high.
Who is watching your stuff while your working 15 hours a day? Crime happens everywhere, even in Alaska.

Your going up there flat broke. What if it doesn't work out? How will you get home? Some of these jobs pay on the amount of fish processed. If they don't catch fish, you don't get paid.

I would need a lot more details.
Sleeping outside in Arctic conditions is no joke, and a simple uq rated to 20-30 degrees may not keep you alive. Let alone warm. Look in the video section here and watch the -20 Turk videos. May shed some light on the proper insulation needed.

Good luck in your decisions. Sounds fishy and dangerous!
