This is why we hate nylon suspension!!

Hey all: so last night i decided to hang out in the backyard. It was about 2:30 in the morning, and i was not about to go searching round my room for my real suspension ( all is polyester and amsteel- ie. no stretch), so i opted for a convenient solution. I had hung a few brief times over the past few days because i was tweaking my hammock whipping/end gatherage, and had used some of my nylon climbing webbing for the suspension for ease/simplicity of use. so i go out and set up a foolproof system (or so i thought): webbing to the ultralight carabiners on the ends of my diy ripstop hammock, and an old army issue CCF pad as insulation and my 0 degree synthetic sleeping bag. I go to sleep fast and comfy and warm, and no tarp because the stars were awesome (for Baltimore suburbia, and awesome is quite relative). So i wake up and i notice i no longer swing at all when i move around, so i reach down and my hand hits the ground very abruptly. Then i feel directly underneath me and im on the ground. I was about 3-4 FEET OFF THE GROUND WHEN I WENT TO BED!!! i am glad i used the CCF, b/c if i didnt i would have been miserable. The only real crappy part about this is that i now have big dirt marks on my hammock, so ill have to throw it in the washer- that means a whole day w/o it!! ahh!! I did sleep fantastically, but my butt is not happy at all- it had to sleep as if it were a groundling! hahaha
    Thanks,
    Dan

Yep, nylon not good for hammock suspension
I don't know why ENO keeps making their "Slap Straps" out of nylon. Must have a huge supply of webbing on hand already.
Love their hammocks, just not their suspensions.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

Yep nylon webbing is not worth a darn for hammock suspension. You must be a really sound sleeper. Not to notice that your tail end was on the ground.

it was the CCF under me, my butt didnt get cold so i didnt wake up, and i was still supported by the hammock-just a 1'X6" spot touched the ground.
    Thanks,
    Dan

We carry them, made from 1" polyester seatbelt style webbing. Here is a link to them. We also have 6' Tree Huggers made from the same material.

    Cheers, Dale

Paul carries really nice ones at Arrowhead Equipment. Light weight and does the trick. Pretty much changed all my straps out to his light weight camo one's

Arrowhead's straps are nice and lightweight plus he is a member (and he sells alot of other great hammock stuff). Strapworks also sells straps but I found they weight more.

Purging all nylon from your suspension system

really reduces the headaches of set-up! I cannot tell you how many nights I had to get up and fiddle & futz with things just to account for the stretch of the nylon tree-huggers I was using.

And then the "Eureka!" moment struck me. Polyester all the way.

I heartily recommend buying your poly web from one of the businesses that support HF.

    Jim
