Ridgeline Question re: prusik knots

I want to make an additional ridgeline to suspend some gear and my hammock sock off of, and am wondering about the line sizes if I am using prusik knots...

I have found numerous sources that say that the cordage used for the prusiks must be 1/2 the size of the ridgeline cordage...

I would like to use the same cordage for both ridgeline and prusiks, what say the RL gurus of HF?

Using the same size cordage will work fine. Sometimes it needs an extra wrap to hold as tight as a skinnier line prussic would.

I've used prussiks of the same diametre as the ridgeline with no issues so far. As Bat said, an extra wrap would be good. If the tension is only in one direction, give a Klemheist a try.

Using Zing-It or Lash-It, I've found it takes several extra wraps if the cords are the same diameter. Though someone here mentioned recently that after the cord is roughed up a bit from use, it grips better.

You'll be fine. As the others stated, just use an extra wrap if needed.

That rule about the diameters of the ropes used is really for life critical applications. Hanging stuff on a ridge line doesn't really qualify.

Use the same diameter and add more wraps if things slip a little.

For the 1.75mm Lash-It/Zing-It I found a Klemeist gripped better for me than the prussik. I used 4 wraps.

I actually used alpine butterfly knots for my set-up that has 2 RLs. The upper/main one holds my tarp and then my hammock clips into the alpine butterflies via dutch biners to let me do a 30 degree without regard to tree distance/suspension angle.

in my own experience, if your line for the prussic is a bit smaller than the main line it will grab and hold much better. if you do use the same size, you will need to do more wraps and it will not hold as much weight w/o slipping because it cant grab the same as a smaller line would. I use mason line as a prussic on some small dacron line, it works fine, but i did try using dacron for both the prussic and RL and it wouldnt grab at all. Just try it out for yourself because there is no better knowlege of this stuff than to have your own experience with it. you can read all you want but things will be different in the field, so just dive into it and give it a whirl.

I have yet to find a decent diagram of the Penberthy. Is it the same as the Klemheist? Animatedknots.com shows the Klemheist but not the Penberthy.
