    Hello from Bedford, Virginia!

Hey everyone! I am a newly hammock obsessed hiker. I have hiked and camped for 30 years in a tent and just this year was introduced to the glories of hammock camping and have not looked back. In fact the trip in which I experienced my first hammock camp, resulted in the immediate sale of all my tenting gear and exchange for hammock stuff. I love reading about your trips and seeing your videos. I have for the last 10 years or so camped with 18th century methods. I am a Revolutionary War Reenactor as well. That usually means, blankets, flint & steel fire starters and oil cloth tarps. This means I don't have a ton of modern gear, since switching to a hammock system, I have a lot to get, quilts and such for these cold Virginia winter camps. Take a look at a video I made on my last trip out. Thanks!! Hope to see you on the trail!

Wool blankets work well in the hammock, since they don't compress much when you lay on them. They're heavy, but they work.

Thanks guys, I am looking forward to having some fun this year. PuckerFactor, I have tried my Wilde Wool blanket, it does work, it is HEAVY, but that sucker's warm. Stay in touch!

Welcome to the forum Visionmonger. Thanks for the video. You make it look easy to light a fire using flint and steel but as anyone who has ever tried knows, it ain't easy. You've had some practice.

Welcome, Visionmonger. I guess your dyed-in-the-wool approach to camping could qualify you as a pound weenie.
