How to attach a KAQ New River to my WBBB?

OK so I really feel like such a newb...maybe that's because I am a newb. Got the KAQ NR tonight and for the life of me I can't make sense of what goes where and how. Are there any good tutorials (with pics would be good)...search came up short for me.

Now worry's, it is pretty easy. Set up the hammock the way you want it, give it a quick test to make sure you have it adjusted the way you want. Then take the loop of shock cord on each end and place it over the whipping bundle at the end of the hammock. Pull on the shock cord at the attached cord lock to set the tension, not to much--snug is the term to learn. Then pull a bit of tension (again just snug) on the end channels. To much on them and you will cause the insulation to wrinckle opening air gaps that will funnel cold air down your legs or back. It helps a lot if you have someone lay in the hammock while you take a look at how the quilt is fitting and fiddle to make adjustments to make it fit better. That way you can see how your changes affect the fit. Then in the field you will have a better idea of what to tweak if the fit gets out of whack, cause you have seen what causes it. You can also clip the mini carabiners to the suspesnion if you want just for security sake, and if you want on a BB use just the foot end side loops and a piece of shock cord over the top of the hammock to really close the quilt in around, but again just a little tension.

Thats another benefit of the triangle thingies... Got a pair on my KAQ and it simplifies the tweaking a bit.

    Law Dawg,
Thanks for asking the question!!! I'm also a newby and was somewhat mystified by how to set up the NR quilt.

I have the first New River, been hanging it the way Paul suggests for a few years now, quick & easy & stays put all night.

Mine is now relegated to in home & as extra insulation during winter, but a fine quilt IMHO!

I hang my NR just like Paul says except I also run a shockcord through the three pieces of grosgrain on each long side of the UQ. I attach one end of the shockcord to the one of the head/foot end suspension gg loops, feed the cord through the 3 loops on the sides, then through a cordlock, then through a head/footend suspension gg loop and finally back through the cordlock. I do this on both side, which keeps the sides from gaping open when I move around causing cold spots and drafts.

Lawg Dog - Glad you got your new toy. Give us a field report when you can. I'm curious as to the packed size?
bigbamaguy - Do you ever use the triangles on the New River?

Ahhh..thank YOU Chief! I am not alone in my former ignorance now.

Got it Paul, I was thinking about how to wrap it around the end knots. Sounds like I need some shock cord and maybe some Triangle thingies and some glove clips and some...wonder where I can find all that stuff? No end in sight.

First report is that this quilt (with insultex upgrade) is big when stuffed in the silnylon it comes with...a compression sack is going to be needed. I estimate it at 3 to 4 times the size of the WBBB in stock stuff sack. Out my window is a nice slow rain with a very slight breeze and the temp is 52. I will set up the lab between rain and when Judy (the bride of my youth) goes to a business woman's club Christmas tree something or another meeting.

I have tried the NR with the Triangle Thingy's and found that it is too long to use the TT's with, at least on the WBBB. When I tried to use them I had to roll them up and then pull the cords almost all the way to the end stops for it to work with the NR. I have a 3/4 length that I made from a AHE DIY kit and have had great success with the TT's in this application. The stock suspension on the NR is sufficiant to hang it just like it comes in the stuff sack.

Sorry LD for hijacking the thread!!!!!!!!!

Did you use the shorter Thingies or the ones set up for 3/4 length UQs (Paul has two sizes)? As to hijacking, a good brainstorm session gives me info to vary my experiments and find what works. Yer OK.

It is RAINING and BLOWING now...the lab set up may take awhile.
