so i tried this approach last nigh with my diy nest. work great 30 deegres easy i had to take the uq off
the nest on the outside works just fine, inside the uc it doest loft at all
the ss handled the 30 degree weather perfect on its own

Glad it is working for you ( Whew!) That is about the temp to which the SS works for me.

If you ever want to try the Nest in the UC again, you might want to put a pad or something between the Nest and UC. For the purpose of overcoming the UC elastics to keep the UC form interfering with the Nest's loft. Something like kwpapke did.

ya ill try that i noticed it did compress it a bit but the set up so warm i didnt think to try anything. ill try it in the morning but this set up will get any hammocker well below 0 no problem
    downside is bulk n weight
im hoping my stove to eliminate the need for all of the layers but im not risking not having them with me in alaska
i think if i had a jrb winter nest not my diy version i wouldn't need any pads but the ss pad
imo and testing a uq and ss can be combined to make artic hammocking possible

What are you using for topside insulation? What kind of base layers? How about your layering system?
