Wow! That much range eh? Fully lofted and less than half as lofted about the same? If that is correct, then that is a very useful fact. That would mean that it is better to make sure a down UQ is at least a little snug against your back, with no gaps, even if it cost you some loft.
Maybe there is something to this "theory"? I remember, more than once, having my PeaPod in fairly cold temps and pulled a little too tight and loft was considerably compressed at butt level. I was too lazy to get out and deal with it and decided to just wait until there was trouble. Trouble never arrived. Hmm..........
