Poppa Smurf Hammock Sock

Used my Poppa Smurf Hammock Sock for 4 nights in Linville Gorge. Low temps ranged from 38 to 32 and it was great! No condensation at all. I pulled it closed whenever I felt any chill with my Nest UQ. (W/O any wind I only get down to 35w/the Nest.) I'd be toasty warm but as soon as the wind picked up I could feel a chill and as soon as I pulled up the sock I was toasty again. Also, it kept lot's of heat inside (like a small tent) which made changing clothes a less chilling process.

MillerGear/others....in the pics at PapaSmurf's site it shows the Hammock Sock suspended by a ridgleline....any reason why you could use it just over the hammock and quilts?

It would lie right on top of you, and sag considerably under you. I think condensation would be an issue on top and probably be less efficient an insulator below. If closed up all the way I'd find it claustrphobic!

I think I' like a hammock sock to work with a PeaPod.
The sock would need to be able to zip up from the feet and down from the head and leave a variable opening where ever one decides to leave the PeaPod unvelcroed for the breathing hole.
Zippers add weight though and if it was done with velcro it would probably weigh even more.......could call it a PeaSock

You'd probably want the sock a bit deeper than the 45" sides if used with a Peapod and a ridgleline or it could restrict the loft of the Peapod. I would think a loser fit on the bottom would be a safer bet.

It would be a "Pea Bivy"! But I still wouldn't want to give up my "tent" effect with using a ridgeline.

What about using a SilNylon bottom & Momentum top? That would give us a 58 (ish) depth.

I usually put Joker in a PeaPod and HammockSock. Works great.

Doesn't Pertex come in a 60+" bolt? The thing I would worry about with using sil is that it might trap moisture generated by the hammock occupant within the insulation. (If you've ever seen me sweat, you understand.)

Good point. I'll have to look around & see if I can locate any.
