How do you all measure how much loft a quilt has

I know that sounds dumb but I'm want to measure my quilts "the right way"

For example, a 3 seaon Crowsnest with 900 fill (+ afew oz of overfill I think)

If I just fluff and shake the quilt from all sides and then lay it on the floor, with the outer baffles facing up (the black up, not the silver part that is against the hammock when it's on). Do you just measure the height that way.
Or is there a better way to do it.

Maybe the baffles should face the floor so when I measure I'm not just looking for the high points on the baffles.

Just trying to figure out the temp rating that's all as this thing is **** lofty and from a quick look last night wil have over 4" of loft looking at it as described above.

rule of thumb is normally (LxWxLoft you want)/fill value. you can then adjust based on price, clothing, how warm you are etc...

you cant fairly measure loft of a differential cut uq by laying it flat.
here's what i did to measure and therefore advertise my loft:
wrap the uq lightly around your body. (as it would do as you lay in a hammock, hung correctly) the loft without compressing the uq is what you will be looking for. this is how, for instance, i detemined that the te-wa standard has 2+ inches.

    enjoy!
