    Tarp Pull Out Pictorals???

I have seen round, square and even read about glue on pull out tabs for tarps. I am a C, C+ sewer and dont want to trash any of my tarps trying to figure out how to fashion the pull out let alone attach it to the tarp. SO...is any one out there willing to do a pictoral on this subject?

Mack, hopefully someone will be able to provide better guidance, but I'll just go ahead & add a thought or two.
I have (with the help of a seamstress friend) made two tarps w/ pull outs. The first had round pull outs. They seamed a real pain to sew, turning the whole tarp constantly to complete the circle, so on the 2nd tarp I used rectangle pull out patches.

They seamed to work fine for the most part, but I did begin to see the stitch holes begin to enlarge after some time, including some high wind use.

There could be a number of contributors to this (fabric, thread, stitches per inch, etc) but I'm wondering if the round patch might not distribute the force more evenly.

But anyway, I have come to the conclusion that I would like to try something different for the next tarp.
I plan to add an extra folded & sewn seam in each side panel, from end to end, after determining exactly how low I want the pull outs on the sides.
Here is an extra seam I added to the last tarp but it was intended for adding an extra wall of protection at the bottom edge.

This would add a very small weight penalty, but it would be near bomb proof.
After sewing the extra seam into the panel, the height could not be changed but more than one pull out (grossgrain) could be sewn across the seam giving more horizontal options.
    Just a few thoughts.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

In general, you don't want to sew the actual tie-out (usually grosgain) very far into the tarp. Simply sew it to the edge of the re-enforced corner. If you sew it all the way up through the corner, the re-enforcement doesn't do much for you in distributing the load. The same goes for mid-panel pullouts. Don't sew the grosgain right up to the edge of the re-enforcement. I believe that concentration of force being transferred to a single point is contributing to Slowhike's re-enforcement patches pulling away from the tarp

Yep, I agree 100%. You can see were those red grosgraing ribbons are pulling on the edges of the patch.

I'll try to set up my tarps and post some pics of both Brandon's (WB) panel pull-outs and Brian's (OES) panel pull-outs tomorrow.

I know Shug's video on his Spinn BMJ tarp shows Brandon's pull-outs pretty well.

I would think if you stitched your patch like the drawing
and then attached your pull loop in the center
it would work for as long as the tarp was viable.

Just my thoughts on it . . .

This is how I sewed mine on my DIY tarp a couple of years ago. I is seam sealed and has really held well for all of it's ugliness!
