Question Tarp Panel Pullouts - quantity and placement

I've got a MacCat Deluxe in Sil on order -- Grizz Beaks on the way too. I just can't wait for a cold, wet, windy night...

I'd like to add panel pullouts to the MacCat for additional interior space and wind stability, but am stuck on how many per panel. I placed the order with a single per panel, but saw a post yesterday with two and it just looked *right*:

    http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=22661

Brian is being patient with me, but I'd like to make a "final" decision soon. He's enjoying family time now, but hopefully will soon be working on my tarp...cause I'm like a kid at Christmas.

I just can't seem to feel comfortable either way, since I can't see/experience the difference. Then it hit me -- ask the experts -- you guys & gals!

So the questions is: How many pullouts per panel and where do they go?

    Help Me!

Tell Brian to put two panel pull-outs per side. This is probably the best way to go IHO.

I agree with BC. I have two on each side of my Superfly and couldn't imagine just one. Here's a photo with just one side being pulled out.

I'll third that. Two pull outs will give you a wider living space similar in length to the wider part of the hammock body when you are in it.
But I personally like leaving a loose, connector line hanging between the two pull outs.
The longer line that gets tied out stays attached in the middle of that connector line.
That way, I only have one line to tie out per side but it pulls both pull outs.

You can see it in this picture, but after starting to use this tarp I discovered that I should have put the pull outs at least 8-10" lower & a little farther apart.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

It works great. I've been doing it that way for several years now.
When I break down the tarp, I just wind the long cord around my hand & tie it, then it just hangs there from the connector loop until I set the tarp up again.

I use the same system as slowhike. Works very well for me.

Wow! Thanks Optimator! That picture really illustrates the advantage of mid panel tie-outs. I've seen pictures with both sides tied out but they don't really show the difference between being tied vs not being tied out. Your picture shows the incredible amount of interior volume added by this simple tweek!

It really does make a huge difference.
Not only does it give you the feeling of having room to move around, but helps keep the tarp from blowing against the hammock on a windy night (with-in limitations of course) & gives more room to go in & out w/o brushing against the tarp.
This is particularly good on one of those nights when everything gets wet, including the inside of your tarp.

How far down from the tarp line do you suggest?
