Polyester 100%. No cotton!
I use Guttermans.

You can go cheep and get the big spool of polyester and go to the JRB website and they have a DIY thread stand you can make.
I meant Speers not JRB. I have underquilts on the brain

100% polyester Gutterman's thread. It available at any Jo Ann's fabric store. Ebay is a good source for Gutterman thread if you want to pick up several colors at once.

I've been working off a cone of polyester thread I got from Speers, 6000 yds of it!
Further down that page are instructions for a stand you make for it using a CD case and a wire hanger. Looks funky but I've done it and it works.
