Weekend outings in 19F and 38F with BBO and sock.

I have ordered an IX Hammock Sock without SEEP, which should dispatch from MacEntyre around Dec. 1. I am quite certain it will perform well. Here is why.



On Nov. 13-14 Bomber and I went on an overnighter to a forest in the north of Sjælland. During the night the temperature dropped to 38F. In the morning I had no condensation what so ever in my setup, where as Bomber had lots of moisture on top of and in the down of his sleeping bag close to his head. I think the reason for this is that (on this occasion) the BBO raised the temperature inside the hammock to above the dew point.

















On Nov. 26-27 I went alone on an overnighter to a favourite spot of mine. Forecasted temperatures for the night was 19F. Evening and late morning temperatures was 26F. It was a starry night with moon and no clouds. (Unfortunately I could not find the thermometer that night since it had fallen into the snow).
When I went to bed I took of my leather pants (which normally would be part of my sleep system) because they were wet at the bottom of the legs (I had not used gaiters).

Because of this I could not get warm in my feet so I took a space blanket and put it over my legs and sleeping bags up to my waist.

In the morning the outside of the foot end of the sleeping bag had some moisture on it just as one would expect. Apart from that all was dry.

On both outings my setup was the same and there was no wind.

Bet you the IX Hammock Sock without SEEP from MacEntyre will be awesome.

One night in Linville Gorge recently, at about 40*F, Thing1 unpacked our gear and found that we had only one Top Quilt. Hickery loaned me a space blanket, which I wrapped up in that night. Of course, it generated a lot of condensation, but I flipped it twice during the night, and all was well!

Do you mind explaining what all the gear is that is shown in the pictures insulating the hammocks?

but do tell more about the LEATHER PANTS!!! over here its mostly people on hogs that wear leather, havent seen hikers/backpackers in them....maybe we're missing out

1) Outside layer is the HH SS.

2) Next layer is also HH SS (HH SS is two parts, the outside “plastic” sock and then the foam pad).

3) DD UQ.

4) Space blanket.

5) WBBB.

In Europe we ride motorbikes when wearing leather pants.
And I hike in them.
Actually I live in them during daytime.

Thanks, I was also wondering what the equipment used was, the equipment that had you expecting an IX sock to be condensation free?

But I am still confused ( as is often the case!). In 1st set of the pics it looks like one of you is using a standard HHSS, while another looks like an IX UQ. In the second it looks quite different. One looks like an HH OCF pad outside, then an UQ (is that the DD TQ?) and then a space blanket. Is that right?

Was the SS used on a WBBB?

If you don't mind, could you specify exactlt what you used on night one when there was no condensation whatsoever, and what the other set up was that had condensation? For those of us who are slow on the uptake!

For example, is the set up in 1st set of pics that looks like a SS, was that(from inside out): 1:a HH hammock
2:a space blanket
3:OCF HH pad
4: HHSS silnylon undercover(all of the above is just my standard basic HHSS set up)
5:something else?

Was the HHSS the one with the condensation on the 1st night? Did the one without condensation use some sort of sock?

Have you ever used the HHSS Overcover?
