    deer hunt hangin

for the last 4 years i have been deer hunting in the extreme north u.p.i truck camp and of course sleep in a hammock.this year my hunt lasted 11 days.i had overnight temps from 34 to 19 deg.and one bad wind storm of 55mph winds.
for my tarp i used a chinook 12x14.i had modid it by sewing on some doors and turning this tarp into a mini wall tent with a 12x5 footprint.i put the peak off center so the hammock was hanging closer to one side.the other side was more spacious for storage and dress.i loved this set up the doors closed nicely and kept out all the snow and rain.in past years i often woke with snow over all my stuff.seemed like i was allways dusting snow of something.

i used the ridgeline/prussic suspension for the tarp/tent.this lawn chair bag workes good as a black bishop bag.holds the entire tarp and some room to spare

i used my double layer diy hammock.between the layers i hung my diy wool uq.outside the hammock i hung my diy fleece uq.inside of that i layed a down vest i bought at st vinnies for 2.00
i used two diy fleece blankets sewed up like top quilts
every night i put on dry poly long johns i also wore a mid weight wool sweater and a wool hat.i wore no socks while sleeping the entire trip.i was warm every night never got cold.
i like to track deer on snow.that is why i go as far north as i can.i get a chance at some lake effect snow, and i hunt in some higher elevations(for this area) were there is also a chance for more snow.all day i look for a big track and /or follow a track i went from 4 up to 11 miles every day.thru all types of terraine, were the deer goes i go.
    i see some coolspots.
beaver dams i crossed a bunch

my double decker cook system.this is a pork steak, rice and chaga tea.i added some labrador tea leaves ,i picked while i hunted through a black spruce bog,to that it was a good combo.
    [IMG][/IMG]

i was blessed with some meat.i cooked up and ate some on the spot to give me strength to drag.
    [IMG][/IMG]

i ended up sharing some of my deer with this guy.he ate the nose.he was tryin to scare me off by hissing at me.pine martin
    [IMG][/IMG]

i was worried this guy would come and eat my deer.this was 200yrd from my camp.bear and coyote track.there were also wolf tracks in area

i stayed in that spot a week.then i headed up into the keweenaw peninsula.
this is hwy 41 about 15 miles from its north end.my kind of weather
    [IMG][/IMG]

was tracking one around the lake superior shore.
    [IMG][/IMG]

i wish i would have seen him i think he made this rub
    [IMG][/IMG]

i stayed up here 3 more days but was forced to leave when a foot of snow was forcasted and my 4wd quit working.
    thanks for looking.

Great report on what looks like the perfect hunting trip.Wish you had got your big one. This is my style too, only haven't been able to hunt this way due to family and health issues. Hoping to get back to it next year.
