Hiking Flat Top - First Snow!

Took the day off today and hiked the 2 mile trail up to Flat Top Mountain this morning. For those of you who know the area, Flat top is the mountain next to the more famous Peaks of Otter here in Bedford.
I did not have a chance to set up my hammock today, I sold my ENO single and my new Trek Light Double arrived in the mail while I was gone, it would have been too cold anyway, me with no quilts yet.
Still, it was a glorious day with snow blowing around high on the mountain this morning and last night with nearly half an inch on top and more predicted for tomorrow! Found a great little rock house where I held up for a couple of hours. I brought the Brasslite alcohol stove and after fighting a damp wood fire for an hour or so, I finally fired it up and had tea in about 4 minutes! I was hoping to get the wood fire going to dry some stuff out but it wasn't cooperating. I put on spare dry socks, finished up some potato soup and headed back down. All in all a very leisurely outing. Hope you enjoy the pix!

Thanks everyone, I have been away from hiking for a few years pursuing my photography career, but all it took was one trip out with a friend to Damascus and It all rushed back in. Plus, on top of that, he was a .... Hammocker. It was like when you finally understand something very simple. I'm in. Now I am hiking at least 3 miles a week and have several over nights planned for the winter. Gotta sell some stuff to get my quilts!

Thanks for sharing the pictures - great photography.

I like the pot over the fire - there's just something satisfying about cooking with an open fire like that. The speed and simplicity of the alcohol stove sure comes in handy though!
