I also had condensation problems sleeping on pads. Last July I tried it without & froze at ~68* in my HHEASYM. . All I had was a poncho liner. I folded it into 4 and put it under me and donned all my clothes to make it through till dawn. After that I cut up an old polargaurd 3d sleeping bag and have since slept well down into the 30's. IMHO A lot more comfy when your not on any type of pad.

Temps down to 45 I use an underquilt made of DWR nylon and a large heat sheet.

    Garlington Taco and a CCF.

    http://www.garlington.biz/Ray/Hammoc.../Insulator.htm

If you carry a poncho read up on how to rig one.
The original way is to fill 2 garbage bags with space blankets
and use that under you in the garlington.

You can also add anything else like clothing, jackets, leaves or whatever.

I have never tried one alone, but I did sleep in 14df weather last year with a garlington and 2 CCF pads crossed.

I want to try and punch a grid of small holes in a CCF pad to see if that helps with condensation. If you used a driducks poncho and tyvek bags that would make it more breathable too.

Tammons, Ive tried the ccf pad with grid holes in it, it help reduce condensation alot. (its no substitute for good goose down , but it does work, and its alot cheaper!) It also seemed to help the ccf pad spread out flatter, so its more comfortable (it didnt seem to kink up on the sides) I also used something similar to the garlington taco, with a space blanket inbetween--------it helps a good bit.
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.

Sounds good. What pattern and big of holes did you use.

    How did you punch them.

I have a set of leather punches I could use.

I would assume they were punched through.
I was going to try 1/4" holes 2"-3" OC

Re: punched holes. I have wondered how cross hatch cutting would go, ala mangoe?
Maybe 1/2 to 3/4 through with the open cut facing the hammock to allow flex?
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives.
