    owfinc 2nds

Does anyone have any experience with Outdoor Fabrics' 2nds? I need to get a large amount of 1.1 ripstop and would love to only have to pay $4/yd, but I'm worried that the 2nds might have structural, not just cosmetic issues. Does anyone know if they'd make good hammocks and tarps?

Call them and see. Usually, 2nds means they may have cosmetic blemishes but no damage to the structure or coating. I haven't ordered their 2nds, though.

I actually just ordered some 1.1 snylon 2nds from Outdoor Fabrics for a tarp. I found the material to be great and a good value for me personally. I could care less about cosmetic problems in the cloth, especially given it was my first tarp project.

I did ask them about the 2nds when ordering. From their description, it's limited to cosemetic defects. Much like Jeff described, no structural or coating problems. You might find that a piece is 59" instead of 60". That may be trivial like it was to me, but if it could cause you a problem it's something to consider as well (they list it as ~60" on the site). As with anything, YMMV.

I've been buying their seconds for years now. Just cosmetic imperfections.
