HaHA, I don't know why but after seeing your picts mustardman that old disco song "Everybody was kungfu fighting" pop into my head.

Sounds like there might be enough snow on the trails that snowshoes could be fun for a Saturday hike along the lake?

Off to the garage to find my hatchet, wish I had a nice camp/trail pack saw.

    cannibal PM sent different subject.

Just a reminder here. We will only be taking wood we find on the ground.
I know it probably doesn't need to be said, but I said it.

BTW, there were several unburned pieces of carry-in firewood in the fire-pit on site #13 (end site overlooking lake) of the Thunder Ridge Campground.

    There, I've done my gathering.

I checked it out yesterday...almost no snow on the way in. Then I ran into some guy and gal with a pooped-out bulldog, and it started snowing shortly after that. Snow stuck to the dirt road (Rampart Range) so it was white (still very safe) on the way out...hardly any snow stuck on the blacktop (from Rampart Range to the campground).

Promontory shows as a campground on my map, but the sign there says it's for picnicking only, "no camping." Let's stick with Thunder Ridge unless the Forest Service tells me otherwise.

WoHo! still snowing at my place. I've got 5" on the front lawn.
I wonder if Woodland Park is getting this snow?

The 5 day forecast for Woodland Park looks great. H40/L20 all three day.

I just looked at NOAA forecast for this weekend and they're saying possible rain/snow showers Friday. Is this event happening regardless of any type of weather? If it's raining it could make things miserable so is there a "rain date"?

Too each their own regarding the weather. Nobody is going to give you a hard time for not wanting to come be wet and cold for a weekend.
I'll still go, if for nothing else just to see how others setup for foul weather. Always something to be learned from the way others do stuff.

I'll be there as long as the roads are safe to drive. If it ain't rainin', we ain't trainin'. The harder you train, the harder you are.

Neither rain, nor snow, nor gloom of night...

Goshdarnit, and here we was hoping for a 20 below zero night to test our mettle! I did a test run in back yard friday and saturday night in the 20's here and about roasted with all my freakish preparations! I had hot water bottles, down quilts, air mattresses, and my newly acquired field-pant liners, army surplus (like 'em). My wife took some humor at my expense watching me waddle out to the hammock. One thing I learned: Pitching that new 11X10 tarp to make an enclosure sure made a difference!

Seriously, though, one ought to have good rain gear, just in case!

How big is that group fire going to be? Is anyone bringing cast iron cookery? I would, but it's a long haul from ABQ.
