started my first gatherd end hammock

Went by one of my customers Saturday for there once a month open house sales. Picked up 4 yards each blue and orange ripstop, large cone of marine grade polyester thread, 3/8 and 3/4 webbing.
Already got the hammock sewn up and ordered some amsteel from west marine. Should have this thing all done next weekend.

Very nice. One thing: most here use normal weight thread. If the stuff you have is upholstery thread, it might be too thick. According to our resident expert: RamblinRev, you want your thread to break before the fabric tears...

+1 on the thread. I just made a hammock and we started with a really thick, heavy thread. It basically just caused the fabric to get jammed up into the sewing machine. Also, unless you are using a channel, none of the stitching really takes significant force that I can tell.

Another useful tidbit is that you can use zip ties as temporary (and I think some people use them permanently) whipping if you want to quickly toy around with some different whipping methods.

The thread was $4 for the cone so i garbed it they didn't have any other polly thread at this place is a kinda get what they got at the moment kinda thing

Got the hammock, tree hungers, whoopie slings and a bag to stuff it in made. Hoping to hang it some time this week or weekend and load test it and get some pics.
