    Lightest MYOG hammock for 225#

Options for the lightest hammock w suspension for me at 6'3 and 225#.
I like gathered end hammocks. Pretty comfy sleeping on the diagonal.

So far I have made a 1.65 oz double layer 56x12' long and that is comfortable.
Also made a 56x10' single layer 2 oz digital camo hammock.
Used harbor freight straps on both.

I would like to hit 16 oz with suspension and a ridgeline. I think I could do that with 1.1 oz ripstop, but dont think it can handle 225# on a long hike. Maybe a single layer of 1.65 oz ripstop ??

I know I will need an amsteel suspension and whoopies.

Are there any other super strong super light materials besides cuben that would work for the body ??

    Thanks

i have heard good things about silnylon (1.3ishozyd2) but haven't tried it personally. It is waterproof so not sure it would be right for me but like i said i heard good things.

single layer 1.9 works for me @ 300# so single 1.65 if quality should be ok. Double 1.1 would be fine for sure.

I believe it will 'work'. I just don't think 1.1 will be very comfortable.

I weigh more than you on most days and I've spent a good bit of time in single layer 1.1 hammocks. They stretch like crazy for me, but haven't failed yet. Over the long term, I suppose the wear and tear would be greater on a single layer 1.1 at your weight. What is your definition of a "long hike"?

Well lets say in one case 2-3 weeks, maybe another thru for 6 mo.

I would question if the lighter fabrics could handle 6 months of abuse though.

Thanks Tim, but I think I want something that breaths.
I have some 1.65 DWR left so maybe I will try a single layer with that.

I guess we will have to wait on the SUL woven breathable spectra cloth.

Do you know what the denier is on the 1.65? 30D? 40D? 70D? (Denier being the thickness of the yarns used to weave the fabric) That can have a lot to do with how the fabric behaves under load. I've got some uncoated 70D that is supposed to weigh in at 1.5oz coming this week (70d is normally 1.9oz). Toss me a PM if you want to know more about it when it arrives - I've only gotten my hands on a sample so I'll know more when I can mess with a roll of it.

For what it's worth though, if that 1.65 is 40d or higher, I think you'll get away with a single layer just fine.

Sending PM... don't want to be a salesman on the reg.forums. I'll post about it in the vendors forum once I have a go with it.

I'm 215, and have a single layer 1.1, whipped warbonnet style. It started off as a 11'6" piece of fabric. It's ultra-comfortable, I've slept in it a dozen nights or so...

Just because it Can be done, doesn't mean it Should be done. I'd feel morecomfortable with a double 1.1 or heavier fabric.
