Hennessy Hex 90deg Rotate

Had a hang with the scouts this past weekend. I'd been playing with a ground setup for the hex and left it rigged that way for the campout.
Tie-out loops have been added to the middle of the hex sides. These now become the ridgeline connection points. This configuration does decrease the ridgeline length a bit. If I knew it was going to be a rainy outing, I'd most likely switch back to the normal config. Also, the snakeskins have too much of a taper to work well, as the furled tarp is too thick on the ends. I neglected to close the ends like I had in the ground pitch as it was getting dark when I setup. Also, I didn't stakeout the middle tieout on one side.

For hanging, slightly shorter tarp if trees are too close, "creates" a set of doors. Last month I pitched reallly low like this for a low of 28deg. Closing the ends seemed to help hold in some heat. It does reduce the amount of protected floor space though.

For a ground setup, again, can close it up a bit if needed.

I reailze there are better tarp designs, I'm just trying to make the most out of what I currently have.

I've been thinking of rotating mine about half of what you did, just to see what it would look like.
ie. if I i'm laying diagonal in my hammock under the tarp set up normally, my head is closer to one corner, and my feet are closer to the diagonally opposite corner. I would rotate the tarp to use those corners to establish the ridgeline. My mental image is that this would create a bit of an asymetrical shape... maybe giving a bit more protection for the head and feet.
But I haven't tried it... and it isn't like I've felt exposed under such a big tarp anyway.

I was really thinking in terms of keeping this shape, but scaling it down a bit to save on weight, while still having good coverage.

Anyone tried this already (rotating the tarp or scaling down the HH Hex design)?
