    My first down project (UQ)

Here's my first down project. It's an underquilt. 48" center width darted to 36" at the ends. 2" differential on the inside 6 baffles(of 8). Made of 1.9oz Ripstop, black inside, OD Brown outside(though the pictures stink).

Baffles are 2.75". Max loft is around 3.5". 12oz of down from Stormcrow. At 26oz, it's a little heavier than my calculations said it should be for some reason. Not sure why. Hoping it will get me to around 20 degrees(maybe a little less in a pinch).

Took me about twelve hours working an hour or so per night over two weeks. Now that I'm done, I wonder why I was so nervous about doing it. Will start a TQ soon(using 20 denier this time to save more weight).

Sorry the pictures are so bad.

Looks great! Did you hand sew it or use a thread injector?

Ha. Injector. Can't imagine having the patience to hand sew it.

    Oh. And it's 60 inches long - sort of a 7/8ths UQ, I guess.

On difficulty, I'd give it a 2 on a scale of 1 to 10. Patience I'd give it an 8.5. There isn't a single difficult thing about it. In fact, I think every stitch sewn was a straight stitch in a straight line. Honestly, it was no more difficult than making a drawstring bag. Just took more noodling and time.

good job jbo c, i know you've been reading a lot on UQ's so hopefully it keeps you warm. i assume you only went with 4" of loft because of your in georgia?
i find i'm more nervous about making the stuff sack than i am UQ or TQ's.

Yes, Bloom, I doubt I'll ever be out in single digits and probably not much in the teens. I'm already wondering if I maybe made it heavier than it needs to be.

I don't bother with stuff sacks. I make plain draw string bags for everything.

Thanks for all the positive comments.
