The thing with the pin is I don't see why it has to be ti. Although a kilt pin would be cool. HF has the rights to their logo.
Dutch - how about a redesign of your clip? i've got a dxf if you want to take a look. i'm curious to know how your testing these. it seems like you're just appling a static load and if it breaks that's how you determine the load bearing. i saw a set of your older version clips over the RRG trip and one side was badly stretched, part of the problem was he had a pack and two heavy bags and all his sleeping gear hanging from one side. the gap between the two curled ends looks like 0.25" nominal, the gap i saw was about 0.5"

i can post a picture of what a redesign looks like later tonight, if you're interested

agreed that the kilt pin doesn't need to be Ti, except for the coolness factor if Ti. I'm sure HF would sell them in their shop for you. Certainly not an important product, but i am trying to think of everything and it is easy to pass on a bad idea but impossible to move forward on a non-communicated one. plus its fun to come up with random left field ideas!

There might be an application for short pack stays that are more rigid than aluminum. Hogn8tor (aka Rat?) stiffened his MMP hip belt attachment with aluminum, I think, weaving the stays through the PALS array. I hope to do something similar to attach the MM Front Pack to the hip belt after I make holsters for the hip belt similar to the ones on the Aarn packs. A piece of ti the same width as the Aarn stays (3/8"?) might work, but it might be stronger than necessary. I have some aluminum I will use, so this is not a request for titanium - just a suggestion of a general line of inquiry.

How about some mini Woks that can double as cookpot covers (coal holders for a trail Dutch oven... or a steam heated cornbread pan) and also be used for frying or a plate/bowl?

I call dibs for the first one!

    Ti properties

As I understand the Ti vs Al properties, for equal thicknesses,

*Al is more rigid than Ti
*Ti will flex and return to normal more cycles than Al
*Ti will not work harden in flexing as Al will
*Al is less dense than Ti
*Ti can be a real problem to machine.
*Ti is pricey compared to Al

I have heard of drill bits bonding with Ti permanently. I am sure that sanding & grinding Ti is difficult.

I am not an engineer, but I have read about Ti manufacturing (primarily bike frames) and the problems associated with them.

And yes, I know that there are numerous series of Al available.

Wikipedia: Titanium is 60% more dense than aluminium, but more than twice as strong[7] as the most commonly used 6061-T6 aluminium alloy.

So it's probably best to focus on something that can use Ti's strength advantage.

how about some kind of round/square with the corners lifted 1/8" to hold a pot off of the top of the Bushbuddy or bent down so it cannot slide off when using with just alcohol as MacEntyre was tinkering with awhile back -nails and pegs move http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...hbuddy+alcohol
