Splicing 1.75mm Zing-It?

Can this be done? I made an attempt, but my splicing tool loop is a bit too heavy guage. If anyone can successfully make splices, eyes, whoopies etc, what do you use for a tool?

I pulled some .025"(solid wire, not flux core) out of my mig welder and it works pretty good.

I used an old 17 gauge guitar string. it worked quite well as it is stiff enough to feed through the rather small core of the 1.75. I knocked off a dozen closed loops with it in no time. Just be careful about pulling too hard as you will garrote your fingers pretty easily with this stuff.

i've used 24 ga. picture hanging wire- found it a little toooo thin and bendy, but it works

the 20 ga. or 22 ga. would work well

I use a thin gague wire with a loop at the end to pull it through the 1.75. It can be done but Isent always the easiest task.

I used a copper network wire (1 strand) 24 gauge on braided nylon mason's line... bent the wire in half and made a few twists...

Yes, I used a lighted magnifier to see what I was doing...

I made a whoopie out of the stuff to see if it would work as a tarp tie-out. It worked, but it was too much effort.

I use fishing leader wire (plastic coated wire). Folded in half to form loop that slips inside the 1.75 Zing-it. I don't remember how small it is (it's at home), but I also have a thicker one to use for my Amsteel.

We've used 2 different tools that work very well.

1. needle - a small needle. Use a stone to blunt the end and polish it. Then we used some 40 lb spectra fishing line to make a loop through the needle eye. Push the needle through the 1.75 mm Lash-It until just a small bight of the fishing line remains out, hook the end of the Lash-It in the bight and pull through. Works really well.
2. 24 guage wire - you can get it at any craft store. Even Hancock Fabrics or JoAnnes has it. Cu off a length suitable, double it and push thedoubled end down the center of the Lash-It and out. Hook the Lash-It in the doubled end and pull back through.

Either method works well and is easy to do.

I just recently started messing around, splicing Zing-It. I tried a few different things, but like 24 ga. copper wire best so far. It works, but is a little bendy and rough on the hands when pulling (fixed with a leather glove). One tip I picked up is to taper. Some say its not necessary for Zing-It, but I think it makes the bury go in so much easier, at least with the 24 ga. wire. Another trick I use is to stretch out the opening by wiggling the wire around at the point it exits before starting the bury. It will still close up nicely when you're done, but really made a difference with starting the bury.

i have tried wire, but have stuck to my needles 90 % of the time



top 2 are for amsteel
bottom 3 zing-it
bottom one is a double eye needle?
