    What length guylines ?

I've practicing setting up my BMJB tarp, with doors, for my upcoming snowtrip. I've been using the guylines that came with a gifted OES Standard, and they are 6 foot, JRB's Self Tensioning Lines. Since it's a big tarp, there is so much leftover. Would it make any sense to bring shorter lines, and if so, what lenghth? Yes, I am asking because I am a bit of a gram wheenie and the weight of my set up is, well..."difficult". What length are your winter tarp guylines? Also, I don't think it will be cold enough to make the rubber brittle, upper 20's, what do you think?
    Thanks

I use 8ft on my tie outs on all my tarps. I've only had to use it all once, but it's better to have it I think. The extra weight is not even negligible.

I use 6' of 2.2mm Zing-it on each "corner" and 12' of 2.2mm Zing-it on each panel pull on my WB BMJ.

With this setup I can get really close to the ground or hang it high and let it fly.

Those JRB STLs have been shortened from stock length of 9.5 feet.

If you want shorter STLs, they are easy to cut shorter, be sure to melt the end after cutting.

I like long lines year round as tying off to trees logs or rocks in the distance for raised sides, better views etc longer lines just give more options...Cut the standard STLs in half save maybe 0.2 oz per pair... Not worth the loss of capability IMHO.

20* will not be an issue.

Thanks everybody. Yeah, the weight difference is not worth having less options.

I hike in steep mountains a lot. so, I use 6' lines on one side of my tarp and 10' on the other. I then mark each end of the ridgeline (short/long) so that I know which side is which before I pull the tarp out of the stuff sack.

I set my tarp so that the long tie-outs are facing downhill. They need to be longer because I am "chasing" the slope downward as I set the stakes out from the tarp. The opposite is true on the uphill side.

From experience I can tell you 2' is WAY to short.

I use 10' roughly on all my tieouts, but to be honest, I've never used more than about 5' on the corners of my diy Speer-esque winter tarp.

It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
