    My second home made hammock

    Two hammocks in one day...
This one is 12 feet long and 5 feet wide. That's Karen, my honey and best friend laying in the hammock; oh, she's my wife too.
This hammock is much lighter. Made of polyester, I am guessing by what the material weighted before I sewed it about 22 - 24 ounces. On this one I used the slippery double sheet bend as suggested in the other "first home made hammock" thread. I really like the simplicity of this knot rather that the overhand one. So many hammocks, so little time, (so much to learn).
See the attached pictures again. Mule

That one looks big enough and strong enough for you to jump in too!

what is the purpose on making one that long?

Long is comfort. I learned that going to the Claytor, it is a full ten foot long, so I thought I would see how a twelve felt. I can always cut it off and make it shorter. On my first one it was 12 feet long too with a HH whipping. I didn't like it so I took off the whipping and tied it Speer style. Now it is ten feet long and feels better to me. On the second hammock I used YoungBloods advice and tied a slippery double sheet bend. That was nice, and used much less material than the overhand. So...12 feet it is. Mule

So, is the third gonna be a claytor like hammock?
Those are pretty easy to make as well. I think I put some 2" seatbelt webbing in the end tunnel to help with abrasion. I think Claytor using something in there as well.
Also, don't forget when hanging without a ridgeline that sag is gonna affect the hang. You can easily attach one and adjust the length to see how it affect the hang.
ain't it fun making your own stuff?

Yes it is fun making stuff. Last night I Cat cut my 9x9 outdoorsman tarp, today I am doing the Claytor tarp but not as much cut off as the first tarp. Mule.
