Thumbs up 10,000 Members for HF

Mods - move to appropriate forum as needed.

196 to go to reach 10,000 members. Where did all theses folks come from all of a sudden????? Pretty soon the woods will be filled with a spider web of hammocks. Keep on keeping on!

A couple of dozen are coming over to my house Friday evening!

Where did they come from can be explained in 4 simple words:
    "Here, try my hammock!"

That's usually all it takes. An alternative (5 words) is "Here, Lay in my hammock!" Much more than that is overkill

I do remember when HF started we (Old timers) all said Hammocking would never be "Mainstream" I'm beginning to think that we were somewhat wrong, & maybe we won't be as accepted as tents are, but even sluggish to change Backpacker magazine is now (Very slowly) at least exploring Hammocks as a viable option. Pretty quick for Backpacker, as they still list a 40 lb pack load as "Lightweight" over 10 years after Ray J introduced his ideas to the hiking community.

Edit: I for one never thought we would have more than a thousand members, 10,000 boggles my mind. Still, that is a small percentage of campers, so maybe "Mainstream" is a rather bold statement. Still, , , , , , , , , ,

When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.

I say we'll all hate it when it goes mainstream...we're 'stealthing' by as it is now. Once all the big boys are in play the rules, regulations, edicts, etc. will multiply and behind every tree will be an army ranger type wannabee recently funded by some stimulus program to keep anything from being suspended from the trees.
I guess when I said 'stimulus' I crossed into the political arena but that is not the intent of the statement; but a lot of us have already encountered the state park employee full of zeal and spit. Think about what will happen when some official sees a hammock and tarp city somewhere on a trail and the government underling whispering in the official's ear 'that can't be good for the trees......'

Other than Backpackers constant lecturing, this is the same reason I didn't renew my subscription. They are geared, IMO, towards one or two types of hikers. One day they will have a whole issue on Hammocking and I can't help but think they would use the info from the people here on the forums. While being the most comfortable sleep system, again IMO, and on the cutting edge of UL technologies, looks like I CAN have my cake and eat it too. I guess I see it as just a matter of time before others catch on.

Lots of great people on the HF forum. I agree, Shug's YouTubes are what brought me IN. Never going back to the ground if I can help it.
    Great way to camp!

It's funny- when I starting hanging out on this forum (pun bad, but intended) messages came in a couple times a day, sometimes you'd get a day where nobody posted anything new. NOW? Wow, the volume is staggering. It's been great fun to watch this whole movement take such a step up!
