    sewing machines?

I am likely going to borrow my moms old sewing machine, since my wifes is busted. For making the hammocks, & suspension, will any machine sew the stitches I need? I wasnt sure until I read something about a bar stitch used in webbing, that might not be available on all machines... I may have misunderstood what I was reading though... so much is like reading a different language!

Just about any machine will do. A straight and zig zag stitch will get you by on any of those projects.

The tension will be much easier to adjust if the machine you are using has a vertical bobbin.
When it goes over their heads, it really doesn't matter how high it is.

most of the stuff you'll be sewing is light weight. the webbing is the heaviest material you'll likely sew, but i think most machines will handle that just fine.

the bar tack can be made by sewing a zig zag... forward, reverse, forward.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

My sewing machine has like 32 different stitches but all I have ever used is the straight stitch (95% of the time) and the zig zag stitch. As long as a machine has those stitches you should be good to go.

whats the problem with the horizontal bobbin and adjusting tension? I was looking at them at wallyworld and most of the more expensive ones had the bobbin laying flatways

I was curious about that too. With the horizontal bobbin you usually can see how much thread is left on the bobbin, which is a plus.
