Thinking typical until I put it on...then AMAZED.

Have you ever avoid something thinking it was nothing special and then when you tried it you kick yourself in the head for waiting so long.
That is how I felt when I put the Stealth Sniveler into capote mode.
So how do you classify this? UQ,TQ,camp jacket, and probably the warmest poncho liner made (well except for the bigger Snivelers).
Sorry Jack(s) it took me so long to discover this awesome piece of gear...next, order the down hood to match.

The Snivelers by JRB have a head hole in the rough center (I think it is slightly off-center to give you more coverage down the back) of the quilt....stick you head in and wrap the quilt around the body. It comes with strings so you can tie in into capote mode (think Mexican quilt or go to the JRB website and see one of the Jacks wearing it as a coat)...add their down sleeves and their down hood and you have a down parka. I liked the length too and even with the Stealth model (sewn through) there is substantial loft for warmth--put your shell on this and depending on your base layer, I'd guess warm for most into the upper 20s in camp.
When its bedtime the capote morphs back into a quilt with a velcro/and tie footbox. Whether it morphs into UQ,TQ is up to you.
My plan is to use this with either of the PeaPods lying around the house and leave the camp jacket at home.

Thanks for the explanation. I saw the picture of the guy with his head through the hole all poncho style tied as described, but didn't know that's what you call it. That's is quite a versatile quilt you have there.

The only thing I motivate people to do when ambling about camp and wearing a Sniveler is to wear your shell over it. I caught the corner of a shelter once wearing a WM Flight jacket and then was wondering where the down floating in the air was coming from. Shells are usually much tougher than the lightweight outer of down quilts....this especially if someone has a campfire going on and then I'd worry about the shell.

Every top quilt I make has the head hole & footbox, which can be closed with omni-tape. This is the best idea since sliced bread! I may have to get out of my hammock in the morning, but not out of my quilt

For me, the first time I saw Pan (the model on the website) wearing the No Sniv as a poncho I was sold. I haven't used mine that way, but knowing I can is quite comforting. My first thoughts when seeing the foot box on a Ray J quilt was "WHY?" so I left it off the first quilt I made. You guessed it, my feet got cold cause the quilt kept coming off.
Another piece that I held off on thinking it wasn't all that special was the Warbonnet Blackbird. My thoughts were something like: "Tying out the hammock is more effort than it's worth" & "The shelf is pointless, I'll never use it" I was so wrong! The shelf is used (read "FULL") every night, & I love the (apparent) roominess of the hammock when the tie-outs are deployed.
Then again, about 6 years ago, I was thinking "Why get a hammock, my tent is good enough." 3 extra trips sleeping on the ground later, , , , , , , ,

    MM, et al,

The Stealth and entire Sniveller family is quite amazing.

But the thing that amazed me most when i finally got around to using it a few years back is Jeffs Gear Hammock and Pack Cover... http://www.jacksrbetter.com/JGHPC.htm ...For less weight that traditional pack covers alone, the gear hammock feature is absolute camp convienence... It is like and Army bunk with a foot locker at the end...Probably 10 times larger than HH sliding pockets and 3-4 times larger than a WB shelf...Real convience to have all ones gear within reach as one sits in the hammock.

Since I used to live in Montreal the mention of word 'capote' caught my eye.

You know, that's almost exactly how I use my poncho; I use it for warmth during the day, then fold it in thirds and use it for a pad at night. Or in warmer weather I just go to sleep in the poncho, so it kind of doubles as a tq and a pad. Although your down is probably warmer than my wool.
