I am in the market for a UQ that will take me down to 30 F or little more.
Not real knowledgable yet, but been looking at Mt Washington 3 or 4 at JRB and a New River by Arrowhead.
Anyone selling one or simular?

I have broad shoulders and you'd be supprised how much an xtra inch makes on both sides when you lay in your hammock. For me this made a big difference in comparing the lay of a 42 inch vs a 44 inch wide UQ quilt. The 44 inch wide (the width of the 3 season incubator) I found to wrap around me better then a 42 inch wide UQ (width of the Mt Wash). I have used both Hammock Gears quilts as well as JRB quilts and for me I like that xtra width. Both are excellent quilts made by excellent people but for me found the wider width was more comfortable. Which every way you lay you cant go wrong with either one of these excellent products. But Id look at my shoulder width when deciding.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.
Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.
Thanks All for your input.
Got some thoughts from Cannibel and went with a New River from AHE. Its a start and I can upgrade later if I need too. Getting started in the Hammocking experience as all know can be costly. And I think since I live in Florida and wont be spending many nights below 30 deg F. I should be OK for now.
I have to admit, I do like the JRB Washington 3, but getting started I need to be frugal.
Someone told me how much you could invest in this. I hope my wife dont inquire or I will be forced to lie
Glad you made your decision. I know it wasn't an easy one; too many great quilts out there. Might as well start saving pennies today, you'll be needing a winter quilt next.
Trust nobody!
Well I wrote to Paul today after placing my order:
I read your site in reference to going from a 30 deg to a close to 0 version by adding more insulation.(KAQ Deep Winter Quilt upgrade)
My question is this. Would it be possible to add velcro to the existing underquilt on the upperside next to the hammock and add say another thickness to make it go even colder?
Here is Pauls reply:
Hey Sunny,
I got your order, Thank You. As for more insulation should the need arise. It is very easy to stack quilts sort of as you have described, even with out any way to attach them together. Depending on the quilts hanging one over another is a simple way to boost the temp range of a quilt. Simply layering over the other.
Merry Christmas to you and yours as well
Paul
I think that with Pauls response, it would not be a major chore to make an in between quilt and suspend it from the corners of the existing quilt. But this does leave some food for thought if you will for a future upgrade for colder conditions..
