How big does a hammock sock need to be ??

    Non insulated.
My hammock is roughly 4'6" wide x 10' long

Like if I were to just sew 2 pieces of fabric together with a zipper at the top.

Similar to this on just jeffs...

I had the DH get into my hammock so I could measure maximum circumference of a loaded hammock- needed about 70" to go around the widest part and over the ridgeline- much less needed nearer the ends, naturally! and remember; your measurements may vary..KM

What she said! YOU lay in your hammock with all insulation. Lay every which way you can and take the largest circumference. I added three inches for a buffer and I am glad I did. I then got a measurement from whipping to whipping also with me in it. I sewed in stages from Papa Smurfs instructions and tried it on at each stage. Ended up changing the angle of the foot end a bit per my individual hang. Also, I wish I had initially cut the bottom edge longer than the top edge. This will make the sock cinch up evenly. Just a bit though so you may want add in the beginning then subtract in your fitting stages. All in all it tuned out pretty well for my first big sewing project. If you want, I'll get photos when I get home this evening. Oh wait, you said top zipper: well, the initial measuring is still important

Just made another one yesterday and the max circumference under my torso is 100". This was sized for the wbbb, so about 100" ridgeline and 120" hammock body.

Could probably take off a few inches. I tried it with about a foot less and thought that was too much.

    Thanks folks.

I am working on a multiuse piece of gear but not sure if I want to throw in a
    sock as an option.

That said the size is about right so maybe I will give it a try.
